Hello world!
Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start writing!
I’m Steven Larsen a developer turned advocate, on a mission to change how the world understands Alzheimer’s.Through science-based wellness, functional medicine, and compassionate community design, I’m helping families rediscover hope, connection, and the possibility of recovery.
I’ve spent over 30 years developing and operating senior living communities across the Midwest but my mission changed when my brother and former business partner was diagnosed with a rare form of Alzheimer’s.
That experience pushed me to explore the science behind cognitive recovery and functional medicine. I discovered that decline doesn’t have to be the end of the story with the right approach, we can support the brain’s ability to heal.
Today, I’m leading the Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center in Fenton, MI a first-of-its-kind community focused on reversing Alzheimer’s through science-based wellness.
Through my work and speaking, I aim to give families hope backed by science and to inspire a new conversation around aging, healing, and the future of brain health.
Through that experience, I’ve come to believe that aging and decline don’t have to be synonymous.
The next generation of senior living must move beyond comfort and care toward science-based recovery, wellness, and purpose. That’s the vision behind the Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center and the movement that will follow.
We’re building communities where functional medicine, nutrition, lifestyle, and compassionate design come together to support both mind and body wellness.
Places where families can find not only care, but hope, and where research can turn individual healing into global understanding.
This isn’t just about one project it’s about proving what’s possible, sharing what works, and inspiring others to reimagine what healing can look like.
The movement starts in Michigan, but it doesn’t end there.
I combine decades of senior-living experience with an outcomes-focused, functional medicine approach to cognitive health. At Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center (MCRC) in Fenton, MI, our leadership team has completed ReCODE 2.0 training and we are preparing to offer the protocol two ways: as a live-in program and as an outpatient pathway. We will be among the few facilities in the U.S. dedicated to implementing Apollo Health’s ReCODE™ program for Alzheimer’s prevention and reversal.
Evidence-based care: I follow protocols rooted in peer-reviewed research (nutrition, sleep, toxins, infections, insulin resistance, hormones, inflammation) rather than “one-size-fits-all” care.
Personalization over prescriptions: Every plan is individualized—built from a person’s history, labs, lifestyle, and goals.
Environment as medicine: Design, routine, light, movement, social connection, and purpose are built into daily living.
Measure what matters: We track cognition, function, biomarkers, and quality-of-life—not just “activities completed.”
Deep Intake & Testing – Cognitive screening, detailed history, and targeted labs to identify why decline is occurring.
Personalized ReCODE Plan – Nutrition, sleep, detoxification, movement, stress modulation, gut/immune balance, targeted supplementation, and medical referrals as needed.
Daily Living Support – Coaching, care navigation, and a built environment that reinforces the plan (meal design, movement prompts, circadian cues, community).
Continuous Review – Regular reassessments and plan adjustments; data informs both the individual’s care and our broader learning.
Family Training – Practical guidance so loved ones can support—and sustain—gains at home.
Live-In ReCODE (MCRC)
Immersive, staff-supported implementation inside a wellness-designed community with clinical oversight and 24/7 reinforcement of the protocol.
Outpatient ReCODE
For individuals living at home who need structured guidance, coaching, and medical coordination without relocating.
We aim to partner with universities, medical schools, and hospitals to document outcomes and contribute to the evidence base. As MCRC stabilizes, we plan a 501(c)(3) transition to expand access, research, and transparency.
Slower decline—or stabilization—and in some cases meaningful improvement
Fewer “bad days,” more clarity and engagement
Families equipped with a plan, not just a diagnosis
I speak to audiences who believe Alzheimer’s is an ending to show them it doesn’t have to be.
My talks blend science, storytelling, and decades of experience in building communities where healing is possible.
Key Topics:
The Science of Hope: How functional medicine and epigenetics are changing what’s possible for the brain.
Designing for Cognitive Recovery: How environment, nutrition, and community impact the aging mind.
Families on the Front Line: Helping loved ones navigate the emotional and practical realities of Alzheimer’s.
Reimagining Senior Living: Building spaces that nurture purpose, health, and connection.
From Decline to Discovery: What we’re learning from the Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center project.
Real change happens when vision meets partnership.
At the Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center (MCRC), our goal isn’t just to care for those affected by Alzheimer’s it’s to transform how we approach brain health through measurable outcomes, research, and compassion.
Our impact begins with the development of a 132-bed skilled nursing facility in Fenton, Michigan, now being converted into a 54-bed Cognitive Recovery and Wellness Center. This will be one of the first communities in the U.S. fully dedicated to implementing Apollo Health’s ReCODE™ program a groundbreaking, science-based protocol for the prevention and reversal of cognitive decline.
We collaborate with exceptional partners Aspire Lifestyle Living, Goforth Group, and Park Plus Associates to integrate clinical innovation with wellness-focused design and operational excellence. Together, we’re building an environment where science, architecture, and human care work as one.
Looking ahead, we’re preparing to partner with research universities, medical schools, and hospitals to share data, publish results, and expand access to science-based cognitive recovery programs nationwide.
This work is deeply personal but it’s also universal.
Every collaboration brings us closer to a future where families facing Alzheimer’s have more than support they have hope grounded in science
Happiness doesn’t just happen it’s something we can plan for, nurture, and live into.
In my upcoming eBook, Planning to Be Happy, I share the practical steps and daily habits that help us move from stress to balance, from survival to joy.
Through simple, actionable practices like gratitude journaling, mindful breathing, morning stretching, and better eating you’ll learn how to build a life rooted in purpose and well-being.
Setting goals that actually make you happy
Building daily rituals of gratitude and focus
Meditation, breathwork & low-impact exercise
The link between wellness, mindset, and aging well
Insights That Stimulate Change: Knowledge is power, but this is only true when shared. Therefore, I always write and speak about the science behind Alzheimer’s and cognitive recovery, making it easily understandable and applicable for the families.

In this conversation with Rob Byrd, I share how personal experience and science-based wellness are shaping the future of Alzheimer’s care and prevention.
I send a monthly newsletter that contains meaningful knowledge and insights ranging from the latest Alzheimer’s research to practical lifestyle changes that can improve your brain health. The Subscribers also receive early access to new videos, tools, and event updates. By working with cooperation and togetherness, we can build a community that is based on awareness, prevention, and hope.
I believe that real change happens when ideas move into action — when we collaborate, teach, and create spaces that help people live and age better.
Whether you’re a conference organizer, wellness organization, university program, or brand in healthcare or senior living, I’d love to explore how we can work together to bring this message to more people.
